Mitchell McConnell and Barack Obama are rejecting a Balanced Budget Amendment. Particularly the Lee-Cornyn-Hatch BBA proposal that would require expenditures equal revenue within five years of passage. Which makes the McConnell Debt Ceiling Option questionable, considering the offer was made without Constitional authority to Barack Obama giving up the statutory power allowing the President to raise the debt limit. Or perhaps it was a ploy, a trial ballon or was it the GOP's way of hiding their heads in the sand evading their responsibility. Was McConnell offering a 'still born option' to a dead-lock? Which leads one to repeat under your breath, "you'll know one when you see it" as you venture into uncharted territory!
According to multiple Washington news sources (all lacking credibility): President Barack Obama
stormed out of tense debt-limit talks Wednesday with his top Republican foes after declaring he was ready to stake his reelection on the outcome, a Republican aide said.
After Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor proposed to raise the US debt ceiling in more than one catch-all vote, Obama got
“heated” and insisted on one comprehensive deal, said the aide, who requested anonymity.
Obama said he would not be
“afraid to veto” a short-term approach or
“defend it to the American people” and warned that a US debt default would amount to
“a tax increase on every American,” said the aide.
Obama said
“I have reached the point where I say enough,” and added
“I’ve reached my limit. This may bring my presidency down, but I will not yield on this,” according to the aide.
Do nothing is the only feasible and defensible solution satisfying the majority of American citizens whom have drawn the 'line in the sand' through public opinion and most importantly the mid-term elections.
