White House Seeks Broad Authority to Reallocate Defense Funds in CR

Obamacare will increase the long-term federal deficit by $6.2 trillion, according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report released today.

Senator Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), who requested the report, revealed the findings this morning at a Senate Budget Committee hearing. The report, he said, “confirms everything critics and Republicans were saying about the faults of this bill,” and “dramatically proves that the promises made assuring the nation that the largest new entitlement program in history would not add one dime to the deficit were false.”
President Obama and other Democrats attempted to win support for the health-care bill by touting it as a fiscally responsible enterprise. “I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits — either now or in the future,” Obama told a joint-session of Congress in September 2009. “I will not sign it if it adds one dime to the deficit, now or in the future, period.”
The new report exposes the “lack of honesty” surrounding such claims, Sessions argued. “The big-government crowd in Washington manipulated the numbers in order to get the financial score they wanted, in order to get their bill passed and to increase power and influence,” he said. “The goal was not truth or financial responsibility, but to pass the bill. This is how a country goes broke.”
The GAO report is essentially the first attempt to isolate and calculate Obamacare’s impact on the deficit beyond the traditional ten-year budget window. GAO ran two simulations “based on broad sets of assumptions about health care spending and other components of federal spending and revenue” over a 75-year period. First, a baseline-extended simulation, which “illustrates the long-term outlook assuming federal laws (applicable at the time the simulation was run) remain unchanged,” and second, an alternative simulation, which “illustrates the long-term fiscal outlook assuming historical trends and policy preferences continue.”
The baseline scenario is far more optimistic, largely because it does not take into account the concerns — expressed by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Trustees, and Medicare’s chief actuary — about “whether certain cost-containment mechanisms included in PPACA can be sustained over the long term.”
However, the GAO report concluded that even under these “more optimistic assumptions,” Obamacare’s cost-control provisions “were not sufficient to prevent an unsustainable increase in debt held by the public.”
The alternative scenario, which incorporates the more realistic “alternative projections” suggested by CBO, the CMS trustees, and the chief Medicare actuary, is even more dire. Under this scenario, the “primary deficit” increases by 0.7 percent of GDP over the 75-year period. The GAO does not put a dollar value on that figure, but Senate Budget Committee staff has calculated, and GAO has confirmed, that it would amount to a $6.2 trillion increase in the federal deficit.

President Obama sure does. He’s making the case, aggressively and comprehensively, that the automatic spending cuts set to go into effect at the end of the month will have a devastating impact, both on the economy and on essential government services.
“They will slow our economy. They will eliminate good jobs. They will leave many families who are already stretched to the limit scrambling to figure out what to do,” - Obama
But there are few signs to suggest the public is listening. A poll out late last week found that barely one in four Americans said they’d heard much about the automatic spending cuts — known unhelpfully for public-comprehension purposes as “sequestration” — and four in 10 said they were comfortable with the cuts going into effect.
“Here’s yet another deadline, and everyone’s telling us everything will be destroyed if we go past it,” said Michael Dimock, director of the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, which conducted the poll. “It’s very hard to get the same sense of urgency for a third time in a row, just two months after the last one.”
“It really is sad. The president’s stock in trade is political games, and this is another political game he’s playing,” Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., vice chairman of the House Budget Committee, told ABC News. “It results in greater cynicism on the part of the public, and none of the things he’s saying are true. And people recognize this — it’s 2-and-a-half cents on every dollar.”

Our president was true to form with his prop-laden speech as to the economic “meat cleaver” impact the sequester would have on our great nation. Hooey. Obama pushes new tax revenues to avoid sequester.
We’ll disregard for a moment that the sequester originated in the Obama White House, as well as we’ll disregard that our president has proclaimed multiple times that he’d veto any sequester compromise that didn’t include cuts of $1.2 trillion in federal spending. Focus on the calamitous cuts our president claims are a doorway to joblessness, disease and general mayhem.
The $85 billion annual sequester amount represents 2.2 percent of our current $3.8 trillion federal spending. Our president warns of cuts to Head Start, border security, teachers, the FBI, the TSA, tuition support, etc., etc. All of this calamity because of a 2.2 percent first-year cut?
As a reminder, on Jan. 1, more than 160 million Americans had their paychecks apparently “gutted” by the ending of the payroll tax cut. I don’t remember Obama doing a"Khrushchev" pounding the podium on their behalf. And no calamity ensued. If 160 million Americans can manage, I’d think this sequester would be a breeze for such competent leadership. While the fiscal cliff deal extended the income tax rates for 99% of Americans, one expiring provision that was not given new life by the 11th hour negotiations was the 2% reduction to an employee’s share of Social Security payroll taxes. For 2011 and 2012, employees paid only 4.2% of their wages towards Social Security. Beginning January 1, 2013, that burden has reverted back to 6.2%. As a result, if you earn a salary, you may have noticed that your first paycheck in 2013 was 2% lighter than your last check in 2012, assuming equal pay.

Workers who agree to such large fees to cross the border usually end up having employers pay all or much of the smuggling cost. They then have to repay employers with labor, a process that resembles indentured servitude and leads to human rights abuses. (… back on the government plantation … life is a bitch when you live in the shadows!)

At a Friday event billed as a Black History Month press conference, Star Parker said African Americans in Congress who support gun control efforts by President Barack Obama and his administration should consider the history of blacks in this country and people around the globe who were oppressed, including being banned from owning firearms.
CNSNews.com asked Parker, who is the founder and president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE): “There are a lot of African Americans and people of color in Congress who are backing Obama’s plan for gun control. What would you say to them because today [at this event] it was revealed that there is a direct effect on the African American community with this gun control?”
Parker said: “Well, I'd say they need to revisit their history – black history, black slave history, black Jim Crow history -- and they should visit the histories of other tyrant nations where we had people like Hitler and Stalin and Mao. Every single time there is someone who wants to take away all other rights of the people, the first right they take away is your right to bear arms.”
“I believe that the the Congressional Black community, or the Congressional Black Caucus is absolutely out of step with black America today on this issue,” Parker said.
Speakers at the event in Washington, D.C., defended the Second Amendment and its guarantee that American citizens have the right to own and bear firearms and that the government should not infringe on that right, including Ken Blackwell, chairman of the board of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) and a board member of the National Rifle Association.
“That right to protect one’s life and liberty is a God-given right,” Blackwell said in a statement. “It is a gift from God, not a grant from government.”
Parker said her organization held the event to allow black leaders “to express our deep concern of efforts currently under way to limit our God-given and constitutional right of self-defense.”

Real federal spending also increased $2437.64 per household between 2008 and 2012.(CNSNews.com) - Inflation-adjusted per capita federal spending went up $822.90 from fiscal 2008 to fiscal 2012, according to official data from the U.S. Treasury and the Census Bureau.
In constant 2012 dollars, the federal government spent $3,176,376,470,000 in 2008 and $3,538,446,000,000 in 2012, according to the U.S. Treasury. (The 2008 spending number was adjusted to 2012 dollars using the Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation calculator.)
On April 1, 2008 (the midpoint in the federal fiscal year which ends on Sept. 30), there were 303,381,938 people in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and on April 1, 2012 there were 313,336,712.
The $3,176,376,470,000 that the federal government spent in fiscal 2008 equaled $10,469.89 for each of the 303,381,938 people who lived in the United States that year. The $3,538,446,000,000 the federal government spent in fiscal 2012 equaled $11,292.79 for each of the 313,336,712 people who lived in the United States that year.
Thus from fiscal 2008 to fiscal 2012 inflation-adjusted federal spending per person increased by $822.90.
That means that over the past four years, the federal government has increased its spending on average by about another $206 each year for every man, woman and child in the country.
There were 111,115,000 households in the country in April 2008 (the midpoint in the fiscal year) and 114,055,000 households in April 2012. The $3,176,376,470,000 the federal government spent in fiscal 2008 equaled $28,586.39 per household. The $3,538,446,000,000 the federal government spent in fiscal 2012 equaled $31,024.03 per household. Thus from fiscal 2008 to fiscal 2012 inflation-adjusted federal spending per household increased by $2437.64.
That means that over the past four years, the federal government has increased its spending on average by about another $609.41 each year for every household in the country.
In order to cut real federal spending in fiscal 2013 back to the level it was at in fiscal 2008, the federal government would need to cut actual spending this year to a level that is $362,069,530,000 below what it was last year.

In August 2011, bipartisan majorities in both the House and Senate voted for the threat of sequestration as a mechanism to force Congress to act on further deficit reduction. The specter of harmful across-the-board cuts to defense and nondefense programs was intended to drive both sides to compromise. The sequestration itself was never intended to be implemented.
Well, the actions of one Congress can't bind a future Congress, and that's why we have to have people in the House and Senate who are committed to the long-term reform of our budget process. We cut $85 billion this year. There's no guarantee that people in future years are going to follow through with it, especially as long as this president is in office. Remember, the idea of using the sequester was Obama's idea. He thought it was a great idea. And now he says it's brutal and arbitrary and wants it revoked. He once threatened to veto any bill that came to him that tried to stop or overturn the sequester. |

Mother sues Planned Parenthood over forced, botched abortion
I am speechless. Nothing seems to make sense anymore. We want strict gun controls but are pro-choice in killing the unborn. We are a nation of absurd contradictions, a nation without a soul.
There's a clear and consistent agenda here and it's focus is death. Let me explain: The Left wants to kill you in the womb, when you are an easy target. But if you dodge that bullet and are born, then they want to increase the chance that you die sometime during your life; the gun-control laws are designed to empower the bad guys and make you less able to defend yourself, ergo, more deaths of innocents. Most other liberal laws are designed to kill off as many people as possible; even the 'reusable bags' laws have increased risks of food-borne illness which can kill children and the elderly. If you manage to live a long life despite the Left's constant efforts to off you, they will then take advantage of your senile mind and promote Jack Kevorkian's assisted "suicide".
When Ayanna Byer scheduled an appointment at Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains to take an abortion pill to end her pregnancy, there was no way for her to foresee the horrors ahead of her. Earlier this month, Byer, through the assistance of the attorneys at Alliance Defending Freedom, brought a lawsuit to hold Planned Parenthood liable for the botched abortion that she did not consent to.
According to that complaint, when Byer arrived at the Planned Parenthood clinic, it was determined that her pregnancy was too far along to be terminated through the use of a pill, therefore a surgical abortion was recommended. Ms. Byer agreed upon the condition that she would receive IV anesthesia, for which she would be charged extra. Although the employees could not get the IV started, the doctor came to start the procedure anyway.
The complaint states:
At this time, Plaintiff immediately told the Planned Parenthood Doctor to stop and that she did not want to go through with the abortion procedure because she had not received any anesthetic. Plaintiff also informed Planned Parenthood Doctor and agents or employees of Planned Parenthood Defendants that she believed this to be a sign she should not go through with the abortion. The Planned Parenthood Doctor did not stop despite Plaintiff’s request, and assured Plaintiff the I.V. would be administered and the procedure would only take a few minutes.
At this time, the Planned Parenthood Doctor turned on the vacuum machines and told Plaintiff it was too late to stop.
Seven minutes later, due to Ms. Byer crying from pain, the procedure finally stopped. She received an apology and a prescription for a painkiller and antibiotics and was sent on her way. Planned Parenthood never followed up with her.
About two days later, Ms. Byer went to the hospital due to pain and bleeding, where it was found that part of the aborted baby was still inside her, resulting in an infection. She had to have emergency surgery.
Dr. Foley, who preformed Ms. Byer’s emergency surgery, accused Planned Parenthood of abandoning their patent:
It is not acceptable to refer your patients to the emergency department and assume the on-call doctor will take care of any complications and assume all the risk associated with the complications.
No practicing physician can maintain privileges to practice and perform surgery if they do not provide specific coverage for their patients in case of a complication. It is considered abandonment of your patient
The complaint alleges seven different claims for relief:
- Negligence – alleging that the abortion was negligently performed, causing pain, suffering, and medical expenses to Ms. Byer
- Battery – alleging that the medical procedure without consent caused harm
- Uninformed Consent – alleging that the procedure went on even though Ms. Byer did not consent to an abortion without anesthetics
- False Imprisonment – alleging that Ms. Byer was kept against her will
- Extreme and Outrageous Conduct Causing Emotional Distress – alleging that as a result of a botched surgical abortion that Ms. Byer did not want to have, Ms. Byer suffered from emotional distress
- Breach of Fiduciary Duty – alleging that the doctor and clinic negligently performed the abortion, negligently stopped the abortion, and did not follow up with the client
