Jesse Watters defends Trump asking Judge Merchan to recuse himself
A Joe Biden donor named Juan Merchan is the judge presiding over Alvin Bragg’s trial against Donald Trump.
Bragg charged Trump with 34 counts of falsifying business records in an alleged plot to conceal reimbursing Michael Cohen for paying Stormy Daniels $130,000 as part of an October 2016 nondisclosure agreement.
To get this case to trial, Bragg had to engineer a federal campaign finance law violation – something not even the Biden Justice Department charged Trump with committing.
Trump’s lawyers filed a motion to have Judge Merchan to recuse himself based on his biased comments about Trump in past trials involving the former President’s associates and the fact that he’s compromised by his politics.
Jesse Watters explained to his audience that Trump was making a basic request for a new judge as there was no way Merchan could give him a fair trial.
Both Trump and Watters cited the fact that Merchan’s 34-year-old daughter is a key player at a Democrat-aligned consulting firm that’s raked in big bucks working for Adam Schiff and other prominent Trump haters.
The press claimed Trump was attacking Merchan’s family – and Merchan responded by expanding his unconstitutional gag order – but Watters explained that all Trump did was tell the truth about a grown adult’s political work.
“Now, the media, who doesn’t support the First Amendment or care about corruption, covers it this way,” Watters began.
“The judge’s daughter isn’t seven,” Watters stated. “She’s 34. He’s not attacking her. He’s just saying what she does for a living. How’s that an attack? He just wants a new judge – one whose family isn’t funded by Democrats.”
Judge Merchan denies Trump’s recusal motion
Judge Merchan denied the motion on the grounds that Trump missed a filing deadline to request Judge Merchan to recuse himself.
But that was just window dressing.
Judge Merchan wasn’t going to recuse himself under any circumstances.
Critics contend the fix is in for this case, and Judge Merchan’s other pre-trial rulings – including letting this case proceed despite the statute of limitations long since expiring – showed that he wants to structure this trial so there is no chance of an acquittal.
Bragg filed charges that carry a combined prison sentence of more than 130 years in the slammer.
Polls show that if Trump is rotting away behind bars on Election Day that Joe Biden will win a second term.
And with polls showing Trump leads Biden on the key issues of immigration and the economy, jailing Trump may be Biden’s only path to victory.
Critics say despite Bragg’s charges against Trump having no basis in law, having Merchan on the bench could mean every ruling in court will go against Trump as he helps steer the likely all-Democrat jury towards a conviction and gives jury instructions, which will make it impossible for the jurors to deliver anything other than a guilty verdict.
